A Gracious New Home in the Catskills

Crestline Residence

A new hilltop house framing views of mountains and valleys

Perched atop a forty-one–acre hilltop with commanding 360-degree views of the Catskills, Stissing Mountain, and the agricultural valleys below, Crestline is designed to heighten the experience of living within a panoramic landscape. To make this vastness legible and distinct, we introduced two monumental stone walls that divide the site into four quadrants, each with its own character. Across these quadrants, the home unfolds in two volumes—one public and one private—connected by a soaring, triple-height glass foyer. Together, these elements establish a sequence of experiences that shift between open horizons, intimate enclosures, and framed perspectives of the surrounding landscape.

Stone, Glass, and Sky

The material palette draws directly from the site’s natural context. Rough-hewn, hand-laid stone walls anchor the architecture to the ground while weaving inside and out, carrying fireplaces, terraces, and outdoor kitchens along their length. Their permanence is offset by expanses of glass that invite daylight and dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. Wood siding and bronze accents add warmth and durability, echoing the tones of the surrounding forests and fields. Landscape terraces, rooftop gardens, and a west-facing pool deck extend the architecture into the hillside, ensuring that the home is as much about inhabiting the land as it is about inhabiting the building.

Every Room a Horizon

Crestline offers a daily retreat where architecture and nature exist in balance. Social spaces hover above the hilltop, oriented to capture sunsets over the Catskills, while private rooms retreat into more sheltered zones of stone and wood. Each space is paired with its own outdoor counterpart—terraces, gardens, and patios that open to fresh air and views. Whether gathering in the glass-wrapped pavilion, retreating to the library, or stepping into the landscape at dawn, the living experience is defined by a constant dialogue with nature. Here, modern design heightens awareness of the Hudson Valley’s timeless beauty, transforming every moment into a connection with the land.
