Founding Partner, Architect, AIA LEED

John Sunwoo

John Sunwoo is a Partner and Co-founder of Palette Architecture. His work predominantly consists of new residential buildings and renovations of existing residential buildings. His early experiences as a professional centered on commercial and institutional work, including master plans for NYU Abu Dhabi and Cornell Tech, a new business school for USC, the restoration and conversion of the American Express building in Tribeca and a new condominium building in Soho. He gained much of his previous experience at SOM and Rafael Vinoly Architects. At Palette, he has fostered relationships over multiple projects with developer and institutional clients as they have grown in scale and ambition.

From a young age, John has been passionate about architecture’s positive impact on individuals and communities. John has been involved in volunteer home-building missions, and in his undergraduate studies at MIT, he researched the possibilities for embedded technology to improve domestic life. These early experiences sparked his belief in architecture’s power to enhance our lives meaningfully. John has been a registered architect for over thirteen years. He holds a B.A. from MIT and an M.Arch. from Columbia University.
